Gardaí renew appeal in Co Mayo murder case
Gardaí investigating the murder of a Co Mayo man seven years ago have issued a renewed appeal for information about the killing.
Eddie Fitzmaurice, aged 83, from Bellaghy in Charlestown, was found dead in a bedroom above his drapery shop in May 1998.
Mr Fitzmaurice had been assaulted, tied up, gagged and left to die over a period of five days.
Despite extensive investigations over the past seven years, nobody has ever been charged in connection with the murder, but gardaí are now reviewing the case in the hope of catching the perpetrator.
They believe there are still people who have information relevant to the case. Crimestoppers has also offered a reward of more than €12,000 for information.
