Search continues for man swept away by river
A search resumed today for a man swept into a swollen river in the North when he tried to save his dog.
An Irish Coastguard helicopter from Dublin, the RNLI lifeboat from Enniskillen and police were called in on Sunday after the man was reported to have got into difficulties at Drummoney Falls, near Kesh, Co Fermanagh.
The search was resuming along the banks of the River Bannagh down to Lower Lough Erne.
The missing man is believed to be in his 30s and from Omagh, Co Tyrone.
A police spokesman said: “We think the man was attempting to rescue a dog in difficulties but then fell in.
“The river was moving quite fast, about four miles an hour because of the heavy rain,” said a police spokesman.
The daylight search operation was going back over areas of the river and its banks first searched in darkness last night after the alarm was raised in early evening.
