The Director of Public Prosecutions has reportedly decided to seek a retrial in the case of the Co Monaghan man charged in connection with the death of teenager Brian Murphy.

Twenty-three-year-old Dermot Laide, from Rossvale in Castleblaney, was jailed for four years in February 2004 after he was convicted of manslaughter and violent disorder in connection with the death.

The manslaughter conviction was overturned on appeal earlier this year, but this morning's reports said the DPP had decided to seek a retrial on the charge.

Mr Laide is still in prison as he is serving a two-year sentence on the violent conduct charge.

Mr Murphy died during a fight outside Anabel's nightclub at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin in August 2000.
