AerDart service to end

Shuttle bus service company AerDart Ltd announced today the AerDart A1 service is to be suspended, blaming DART closures for the decision.

The services will cease running at 8.30pm on Sunday March 20. Employees of AerDart were informed this morning of the decision to suspend operation of the service.

AerDart commenced operation of its scheduled service in April 2001. It provided a shuttle bus service which connected Dublin Airport to Dublin's DART and the eastern and national rail network.

A company statement said the decision to suspend the service was taken as a result of falling passenger numbers and mounting losses caused by the weekend closures of the DART line due to upgrades.

"The closures undermined the effectiveness and convenience of the AerDart service for its customers. Since October 2003 this has made the profitable operation of AerDart an impossibility and, with the projected date of reopening of the line now pushed back to September, there is now no possibility that the service will be viable in the foreseeable future," the company said.

Allen Parker, managing director of AerDart said: "It is with great regret that we have to take this decision. DART upgrade works have seriously impacted on the operation of the AerDart service and losses can not be sustained any further."
