OCDR issues guidelines to combat internet scams

The Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs has issued guidelines to consumers to recognise and avoid internet money "scams".

Consumers who fear they are being targeted by suspicious offers or requests can now use this advice before deciding to hand over cash or information or making any commitments.

The ODCA website, www.odca.ie contains a checklist on how to avoid being taken in by scams.

The Director of Consumer Affairs, Carmel Foley, said: "This fraud awareness advice will help consumers to stop, think and to check it out before parting with money or personal financial information."

The Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs is issuing this advice as part of a fraud awareness campaign, which is coordinated throughout 30 member countries of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN).
