New cancer research centre to be built in Belfast

Belfast is becoming one of Europe's leading cities in the battle against cancer, with a new cancer research centre being launched at Queens University.

The €30m Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology will focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, through discovering causes of the disease.

The new facility will house high quality international research staff and will complement the new clinical cancer centre at Belfast City Hospital.

Work on the new building will get underway early next year, and will take around two years.
