Britain facing legal action over Sellafield inspections
The European Commission is due to meet today to consider what action to take against the British Government over its failure to adequately deal with nuclear waste at Sellafield.
The commission has already criticised Britain’s refusal to give inspectors proper access to a “pond” where spent nuclear fuel is stored at Sellafield.
The inspectors have been unable to determine the amount of fuel in the “pond” due to radiation and a lack of physical access to the site.
The EC is due to decide today whether to impose financial penalties on the British Government or take a case to the European Court of Justice.
