Hunt continues for stabbing suspect

The hunt for the convicted killer suspected of killing Martin O’Donoghue last Monday is still focused on certain parts of Limerick city, despite reports that he may have skipped the country.

The suspect was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for manslaughter.

Five people — three men and two women- were still being questioned today. More arrests were also expected later today.

Ten people have been questioned already in connection with the murder. Gardaí said it was one of the must brutal stabbings they have had to investigate.

Mr O’Donoghue received multiple stab wounds in a frenzied attack.

A number of knives have been recovered near the scene outside The Pub in Broad Street, Limerick.

Mr O’Donoghue was attacked after he tried to act the peacemaker when a row erupted in the licensed premises on Monday night.

A brother of the main suspect was overheard on a mobile phone asking another person to “bring the blades” for use in the row.

Mr O’Donoghue’s funeral took place today after Requiem Mass at St Mary’s church in Limerick.

The dead man, who was aged 35, was pronounced dead on admission to Limerick Regional Hospital early on Tuesday morning.

The fatal wounds were inflicted with a long kitchen knife, which was plunged through his chest.

Mr O’Donoghue was pinned down by one man as another stabbed him repeatedly.

The man holding him was stabbed in the hand by mistake.
