A two-year-old boy has died in hospital from injuries he sustained in a house fire in west Belfast yesterday.

The toddler was rescued from the blaze in the Springfield Road area by local council workers and was rushed to hospital in the back of a police Land Rover after an ambulance sent to the scene broke down.

His mother and three-year-old brother was also hospitalised, but were later released. The fire is believed to have started in an upstairs bedroom of the house on Fort Street at around 8.30am yesterday.
