Bus, rail strike cancelled as minister backs down
The bus and rail strike planned for next week looks to have been averted after plans to privatise certain Dublin Bus routes were dropped late last night by the Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan.
The minister’s u-turn has saved the day for commuters after National Bus and Rail Union leaders announced that all impending strike action has been called off.
The unexpected breakthrough has been welcomed by opposition leaders as well as the unions.
Fresh negotiations involving union members are due to get underway shortly and will involve establishing a new body to set minimum pay rates for all bus and rail services.
