Keeping sick child in hospital ‘costs €80 per day’

Keeping a sick child in hospital can cost families as much as €80 per day, according to a new study.

Children in Hospital Ireland has said that excludes medical bills and only counts costs like food, car parking, travel and other expenses.

It also said the cost rose to €96-a-day for children who are out-patients.

The research, funded by Combat Poverty, also found that most parents of seriously ill children borrow money to cover the expenses they incur because of the illness.
