Parents Council disturbed by part-time work study
The National Parents Council has said it is disturbed by the findings of a study which found that second-level students who work part-time perform worse at school.
Reports this morning said the research, by the Government’s Economic and Social Research Institute, found that secondary school students who work part-time achieve lower grades in state exams and are less likely to go on to third-level education.
The study also reportedly found that a third of such students spend a significant amount of their money on alcohol, while one fifth spend some of their earnings on cigarettes.
