Adams to repudiate IMC claims
Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams is expected to be highly critical of the International Monitoring Commission during a speech to Dublin Chamber of Commerce this morning.
Mr Adams is expected to use the speech to repudiate claims that senior members of his party are also leading activists in the Provisional IRA.
The claim is contained in the IMC’s first report, which was published yesterday by the Irish and British governments.
The report also accused the Provisional IRA of involvement in punishment shootings, smuggling, hijackings and the attempted abduction of a dissident republican in Belfast in February.
The British government has decided to withhold its financial assistance to Sinn Féin as punishment for the ongoing activities.
