All-Ireland emergy plans discussed in Drogheda

Politicians and businessmen from both sides of the border have met in Co Louth to discuss plans to establish an all-Ireland energy market.

Representatives of the electricity, gas and renewable energy industries attended the meeting in Drogheda along with the regulatory authorities from both sides of the border.

They were brought together by Natural Resources Minister Dermot Ahern and his counterpart in the North, Ian Pearson.

The talks focused on six main areas: cross-border trading in electricity; the integration of the electricity systems on both sides of the border; the establishment of an all-island gas network; the co-ordination of regulatory activities; the promotion of energy efficient policies; and climate change, emissions and renewable energy.
