Gilmartin to give more evidence at tribunal
Property developer Tom Gilmartin is expected to face further questions about his dealings with senior Irish politicians at the Mahon Tribunal later today.
Yesterday, Mr Gilmartin told the tribunal that Transport Minister Seamus Brennan and former minister Padraig Flynn were lying when they said they never attended a meeting with him in 1989.
Mr Gilmartin said former Fianna Fáil TD Liam Lawlor took him to meet the then Taoiseach, Charles Haughey, and other cabinet ministers at Leinster House.
He said he clearly remembered Mr Brennan and Mr Flynn being present at this meeting.
Mr Gilmartin said the current Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, was also present at the Leinster House meeting and even greeted him by name.
Mr Ahern has claimed that he cannot remember any such meeting.
In his most sensational evidence yet, Mr Gilmartin said he was approached by an unidentified man after the meeting and told to deposit £5m in an Isle of Man bank account for Fianna Fáil.
When he refused, he said, the unidentified man replied: "You could end up in the Liffey for that."
Mr Gilmartin said he came out of the meeting with the impression that Ireland was totally corrupt.
