US expert says Irish e-voting system cannot be trusted
A US computer expert has reportedly expressed serious concerns about the Government’s planned electronic voting system.
Reports this morning said computer science professor David Dill believed the system could not be trusted as there is no way to verify the results it provides.
Dr Dill, who works at California’s Stanford University, reportedly said the system should be withdrawn in order to protect voter confidence.
The controversial electronic voting machines have been introduced on a trial basis in some constituencies and are due to be rolled out nationwide during June’s local and European elections.
