Trimble accuses opponents of 'Stone Age politics'

Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble has accused the anti-agreement wing of his party of seeking to return to "Stone Age politics".

Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble has accused the anti-agreement wing of his party of seeking to return to "Stone Age politics".

Mr Trimble said the anti-agreement MPs Jeffrey Donaldson, David Burnside and Martin Smyth were trying to derail the political process in the North.

He said their decision to resign the party whip in Westminster earlier this year in protest at the UPP’s refusal to reject the recent Irish-British declaration on implementing the Good Friday Agreement was "over the top".
