Temporary village erected to highlight students' rental problems
Students protesting at the lack of accommodation available to them have erected a temporary village on Dublin's Grafton Street to highlight the problem.
They are claiming that one in five landlords is not registered and that much of the rented accommodation on offer to students is in breach of health and safety standards.
The protest comes as thousands of students make plans for university and college for the first time.
Union of Students Welfare Officer Glenn Gilfoyle said this afternoon that the USI are also angry that new legislation will do nothing to solve the problem.
