Guinness staff to learn of planned lay offs

Staff at Guinness and its parent company, Diageo Ireland, are due to be told today how many jobs will be lost as part of the firm's restructuring plans.

Up to 200 workers are expected to be laid off, but details will only be made public after management meet with employees later today.

Yesterday, electronics manufacturer MSL announced 200 lay-offs in Athlone, Co Westmeath, as part of its restructuring plans.

The company blamed the downturn in the electronics industry for the job losses.
