FG calls for inquiry into priest murder
Fine Gael are calling for an independent inquiry into the murder of an Irish priest in Uganda last year.
The party's foreign affairs spokesperson Gay Mitchell describes the official Ugandan report on Fr Declan O'Toole's death, which clears the Ugandan army of the killing, as unsatisfactory.
Fr O'Toole was shot dead in March of 2002 in the Kotido district of North Eastern Uganda. Two soldiers were tried and executed within days of the killing. Deputy Mitchell says it's clear there is more to this than meets the eye.
"It's very clear that diplomats in Uganda are very concerned about the whole regime there and the way they investigate themselves. There should be an independent examination of this and the Government should be pressing for that and I'll be pressing the Government to seek that," he said.
