Coveney calls for action on crime

Fine Gael Justice spokesman Simon Coveney has called for further action on violent crime in the wake of an horrific petrol bomb assault on a man in Limerick last night.

Mid Western Health Board official Tom Hourigan is currently recovering from his injuries in Cork University Hospital after being subjected to a petrol bomb attack on the driveway of his own home.

"This is another example of an innocent person suffering as a result of a vicious assault. For a highly respected public servant to be assaulted in such a vicious manner on the driveway of his home must remind policy makers how we are failing to tackle the level of violent crime," said Deputy Coveney.

"This attack reinforces yet again what a violent society we live in. Clearly the Justice Minister needs to show more leadership in curbing vicious and violent assault."
