Man doused with fuel and set alight

Gardai in Limerick are investigating a horrific attack in which a 51-year-old senior health board official was doused with fuel and set alight.

The man was attacked by a lone person wearing a balaclava as he was sitting in his car outside his Meadowvale home in Raheen just after 9pm last night.

It's understood that the victim was transferred to Cork University Hospital overnight for surgery to his face and hands.

Gardai said his injuries are not life-threatening and have ruled out any connection with on-going feuding between two family-based criminal gangs in Limerick.
