ASTI to begin ballot on pay deal
The Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland is to begin balloting its members today on the supervision and substitution scheme proposed by the Government.
ASTI members voted in favour of the deal last year, but the union's executive decided to hold another ballot after the Department of Education confirmed that the teachers had misinterpreted sections of the proposals.
The deal offered €1,423-a-year for 37 hours of supervision and substitution duties, but the ASTI has now recommended that its members reject the proposals due to a disagreement with the Government over payment for on-call duties.
