Debate sought on intellectual disability
Fine Gael's Dan Neville has called for a Dáil debate on the absence of funding for new services to develop children and adults with intellectual disability.
"The Minister for Finance must immediately introduce a Supplementary Estimate to ensure that those who are in most need are catered for," said Deputy Neville.
"At present there are 1,711 people living at home who require full-time residential service, 861 who require a day service and 1,014 who require respite service.
"Furthermore there are still over 400 people with intellectual disability living with totally unsuitable conditions in long stay psychiatric hospitals. The Minister must immediately act on this."
