Rape trial of Albanian begins tomorrow

The trial of a foreign national accused of kidnapping and raping a Dublin woman at a flat near the city centre two years ago will begin at the Central Criminal Court tomorrow.

The trial of an Albanian national accused of kidnapping and raping a Dublin woman at a flat near Dublin city centre two years ago is scheduled to begin at the Central Criminal Court tomorrow.

The 38-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to one charge of false imprisonment, one of aggravated sexual assault, two charges of rape and a charge of sexual assault on the woman on August 28 and 29, 2000.

A jury was sworn in for the trial yesterday but the hearing was put back until so that a translator can be made available for the accused.

Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill will preside over the trial.
