Dunlop to resume evidence at Flood tribunal

Former government press secretary Frank Dunlop will face more questions about alleged payments to politicians when he returns to the Flood tribunal later today.

Yesterday, Justice Flood was told Mr Dunlop paid £5,000 to former Fine Gael senator Liam Cosgrave in 1997.

Mr Cosgrave denies receiving the money.

The tribunal was told that Mr Dunlop met Liam Cosgrave in the Davenport Hotel in Dublin in October 1997.

He said he gave Mr Cosgrave £2,500 in cash in return for his signature on a rezoning motion.

Mr Dunlop says he met Cosgrave again on December 23, 1997, in Buswell's hotel in Dublin and paid him a further £2,500.

Mr Cosgrave had already told the tribunal that he paid Mr Cosgrave £2,500 six years earlier in 1991.

A payment of £5,000 was also made to Fianna Fail councillor Tony Fox according to Frank Dunlop.
