The Green Party has urged Justice Minister Michael McDowell to issue an apology to world-famous African singer Youssou N'Dour after he was detained by immigration officials at Dublin Airport last night.

The Senagalese singer, who was arriving in Dublin for his upcoming concert at the RedBox, was held for more than three hours before being released.

Green Party spokesman Ciaran Cuffe said the incident was utterly indefensible and bore all the hallmarks of racial profiling. He called on Minister McDowell to reveal the full details behind the arrest and the criteria which immigration officials look for when watching people entering Ireland.
