Only 16% understand meaning of Nice Treaty
The Referendum Commission has launched it’s campaign to educate the electorate about the Nice Treaty.
A survey shows just 16% of people actually understand it.
The Government’s preparing to announce a date for the Nice poll, the second in just over a year.
Justice Tom Finlay is heading the impartial campaign, which will feature on TV, radio, newspaper advertisements and official booklets on the Treaty.
He said: "The campaign is much longer, as far as we are concerned the Referendum Commission are merely explaining what the thing is all about, we are not trying to be partial to either side.
"Probably the campaigns for each side are equally more informative the longer it goes on."
