PSNI hail success of booby-trap find

Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Constable Hugh Orde has described a car booby-trap find today as a “very significant” success against dissident republicans.

Officers swooped on a car heading towards the town in Omeath Road from the direction of the border with County Louth.

Later two devices were found in a second car. Police said two men were taken into custody for questioning.

Mr Orde described the security operation as a ``major success'' against dissident republicans.

He said: “At 9.30pm last night a number of officers stopped a vehicle and arrested two men aged 35 and 36.

“As a result of a follow-up operation they recovered another vehicle and discovered two under-car booby-trap devices.

“This has been a major police operation and is another example of the outstanding successes we are having.

“We believe this was a result of dissident republican activity. The vast majority of people in the community do not want anything to do with this sort of activity.”
