Police received reports of two women being injured after an acid bomb was thrown during fighting between Protestants and Catholics living at one of the city’s most bitter peacelines.

The device was said to have been hurled across into loyalist Cluan Drive from Clandeboye Drive in the staunchly nationalist Short Strand.

A pipe bomb was then launched into the garden of a Catholic home in a retaliation strike.

Police said no one was injured in that attack.

Stones and fireworks were also thrown during the sporadic outbreaks of violence last night.

Both sides deny any attacks were instigated by members of their communities.
