Controversial environmental report published today

A major study being dubbed the "Environmental Ansbacher" will be published later this morning.

The report into Ireland’s environmental record has been put together by a group of Irish organisations at the request of the United Nations.

It is 10 years since the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and this morning a new report will accuse the Government of not implementing the principles agreed there.

Irish non-Governmental agencies have put together this study at the request of Klaus Toffler, head of the United Nations Environmental department.

It details 34 different examples of where the Government is going wrong on environmental issues.

These examples range from failing to take an environmental impact assessment for two new peat burning stations in the Midlands and to failing to tackle our waste problem.

The report will be presented to the World Summit for sustainable development in South Africa next week.

The book is meant to act as an alternative to a contrary report due to be released by the Government shortly.
