Irishman set for deportation from Israel

A 25-year-old Irishman arrested during a peaceful protest in the West Bank last week is expected to be deported back to Ireland later today.

A 25-year-old Irishman arrested during a peaceful protest in the West Bank last week is expected to be deported back to Ireland later today.

Salah Afifi, an architect from Ranelagh in Dublin, was arrested along with three Americans and five French nationals during a protest against the Israeli occupation at the Huwara Junction near Nablus.

He has been held in Ramle Detention Centre in Israel for the last seven days and is due to be deported today.

Mr Afifi travelled to the West Bank with the International Solidarity Movement in support of Palestinian civilians facing an Israeli army curfew.
