The Customs Service has employed five new sniffer dogs to help tackle drug smuggling into Ireland.

The Customs Service has employed five new sniffer dogs to help tackle drug smuggling into Ireland.

The new dogs double the strength of the Customs’ canine unit to 10.

The dogs have been trained to detect heroin, cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis and one of them can also detect tobacco products.

Customs now has dog units based in Dublin Port, Dublin Airport, Rosslare Harbour, Waterford, Cork, Shannon and Sligo.
