Trocaire call for safeguard to aid

Aid agency Trocaire has called on the Government to introduce legislation to safeguard Ireland’s commitment to overseas aid.

The charity’s director, Justin Kilcullen, said: "Two years ago, the Taoiseach, speaking at the UN general assembly, made a pledge to the world that Ireland would reach the UN target of 0.7% of GNP as aid by the year 2007.
