Homeless organisations call on new TD’s to solve housing crisis

Three housing and homeless organisations are writing to all newly elected TDs to demand solutions to the housing crisis in Ireland.

Focus Ireland, The Simon Community and Threshold are calling for constitutional changes on top of a radical reduction in homelessness in the next three years.

Noeleen Hartigan from the Simon Community says Ireland is lagging behind in offering housing as a fundamental right.

"All three organisations are committed to having this change, which would mean that everyone's right to health would be enshrined in our constitution.

"The is huge political support from parties, bar Fianna Fail for it, and there is also immense pressure for from the UN to implement it."
