Police in Northern Ireland were today questioning two men after a stolen tipper lorry was stopped travelling the wrong way down a city by-pass.

A number of vehicles were damaged during the incident including two police cars whose drivers had been trying to stop the vehicle. There were no injuries.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman said officers were first alerted to the lorry when it was in Glen Road, west Belfast last night.

The vehicle, which he said was being driven recklessly, was pursued along the Westlink road, onto the M5 and then on the M2 towards Belfast, before being stopped by officers as it drove the wrong way down the Sydenham by-pass.
