Study says €17bn could be saved on NDP plans
Irish taxpayers and motorists could save €17bn if the Government changed the commitment to toll roads contained in the National Development Plan, according to the Campaign for Sensible Transport (CaST).
A study commissioned by the campaign found that €3bn in capital spending could be saved if the Government implemented the National Roads Authority’s road needs survey rather than the current NDP toll roads approach.
CaST said transport users would save a further €14bn on toll charges in the next 30 years if the toll roads approach was abandoned.
CaST is an umbrella organisation of 20 nationwide groups established in response to the NDP road plans.
