CORI seeks new national agreement
The Conference of Religious in Ireland has called for the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness to be replaced with a new national agreement to address the widening gap between rich and poor.
CORI, a long-time opponent of the PPF, said any future agreements between workers, employers and the Government must reflect the changing state of Ireland’s public finances to ensure the less well-off are not left behind.
Spokesman Fr Sean Healy said Ireland’s tax rates are well below the EU average, while our per-capita income is above that of other EU nations.
He said it is now time to take from the rich and give to the poor to achieve a fairer distribution of wealth.
