Order has been restored at Ballyhaunis Community School in Co Mayo following yesterday’s disruption by students on the first day of ASTI withdrawal from supervision and substitution.

An emergency meeting of parents last night agreed that up to eight parents will assist those brought in to supervise under the Department’s contingency plan for the duration of the dispute.

The measure appears to have restored calm to break times at the 650-student school today.

However, some parents in Castlebar are calling today’s situation at St Gerard’s College in the town, "The Chalk Flu". With seven teachers absent today, all non-exam students at the school were sent home.
