SDLP calls for increase in police recruitment

The SDLP in the North has asked that recruitment to the police service be stepped up from five hundred to a thousand a year.

But the Police Federation, which represents rank and file officers, says training is overloaded already and the full time reserve should be retained instead of abolished.
