Shannon airport police to continue strike

Strike action by Airport police and rescue workers at Shannon airport will leave it without its normal emergency cover again today.

Security and safety crews walked off the job last Friday amid claims that two union representatives were to be disciplined.

The dispute, involving about 60 members, has forced Aer Rianta to call up to 12 managers at the Airport to fill the breach and provide emergency cover since last Friday.

Aer Rianta is insisting that the Airport is staying within its legal obligations to the State and the International Civil Aviation authority.

Security is also being questioned now that US military aircraft land at the facility to refuel.

Gardai are also investigating claims that a member of Aer Rianta management assaulted a member of the Airport police on Saturday.
