PAC may order investigation into garda video contract

The Dail’s Public Accounts Committee will decide today whether to investigate why the gardai awarded a contract to supply video equipment to the highest bidder.

The successful bidder for the contract was SKS Communications, which had presented the most expensive quote.

The contract concerned the supply of video equipment to more than 100 stations. Justice Minister John O’Donoghue has insisted that SKS, despite being the most expensive, also had a specific technical expertise needed for the contract.
