Inquiry hears more evidence of Bloody Sunday massacre

A witness at the Bloody Sunday tribunal in Derry broke down this morning after revealing how he pretended to be dead to avoid being murdered by British soldiers.

Joseph Mahon, who was 16 at the time of the Bloody Sunday massacre, said he took cover when the British army entered Derry’s Bogside and began firing at civilians.

He told how he saw another man, Jim Wray, lying close to him before a British soldier appeared and shot Mr Wray twice in the back at close range.

Mr Mahon said he played dead while the soldier walked down an alleyway and fired more shots. The soldier then returned and said: "I’ve got another one."
