Trial opens of baby murder and arson accused

The trial has opened in the Central Criminal Court of a 38-year-old Dublin man charged with the murder of a baby boy last year.

Eighteen-month-old Adam Lehigo died in a house fire on July 23 last after a petrol bomb was thrown through the kitchen window of 255 Buttercup Park, Darndale.

The state claims that Gerard Redmond of Ferrycarrig Park, Coolock, prepared, lit and threw the bomb.

Opening the trial, state counsel said in the hours prior to the fire, the accused had been drinking heavily and was involved and injured in a row with a member of the baby's family.

Gardai were initially called, but left when they were told the incident was domestic.

Some time later in what the prosecution alleges was a revenge attack, the Lehigo house was set on fire. The accused man has denied responsibility for the blaze.
