Alcohol involved in 40% of road accidents

Drink is a factor in 40% of fatal accidents on the roads, according to figures released to coincide with the launch of the pre-Christmas garda blitz.

Gardai are still making over 1,000 arrests a month for drink-driving, with more than 62% of those detained found to be over twice the legal limit.
