A Brother of Charity convicted of sexual abuse will face a new trial on his release from prison in February, after gardai discovered 11 new victims.

In a landmark case, James Kelly, known as Brother Ambrose, was given a 36-year term for abusing young boys at Lota House in Cork during the early 1960s.

The remainder of his sentence was suspended last month after he had served just 18 months.

Gardai said he will be re-arrested to face the new charges.

Four of the new victims are from Co Wexford and one is a mentally-handicapped man from Kilkenny.
