Attempted Longford child abduction investigated

Gardai in Longford are investigating an attempted child abduction in the county yesterday evening.

A man tried to snatch a young girl while she was walking home.

He pulled up beside the 9-year-old girl at Drumlish and offered her a lift home at around 7pm yesterday.

When she refused, he grabbed her and brandished what appeared to be a knife.

The arrival of another car then startled the attacker and the girl escaped.
