McGuinness set to refute ambush allegations
Martin McGuinness is reportedly set to reject allegations at the Bloody Sunday inquiry that he was involved in a botched IRA ambush on the day of the shootings and was forced to flee with a gun hidden up his shirt.
The denial relates to claims of an attempted ambush on the city's William St, where Mr McGuinness and two others hid in a house, planning to fire through the doorway on British soldiers.
However it is reported the three were forced to escape when troops moved into the area.
One of the individuals attributed as a source, former Stormont MP Ivan Cooper, has already described the story as "poisonous and disturbing".
Mr McGuinness is already set to refute allegations that he fired the first shot on Bloody Sunday.
He is also facing a DUP-sponsored vote of no confidence on Tuesday, although this is highly unlikely to gain the cross-community support required to oust him from his ministerial post.
