Abbeylara inquiry details announced

Details of the Oireachtas inquiry into the death of John Carthy at Abbeylara last year have been announced.

The investigation which will be chaired by TD Sean Ardagh is expected to last for three weeks and will hear evidence from the Carthy family and friends, members of the gardai, medical personnel and firearms experts.

In addition, the sub committee as part of its inquiry will visit Abbeylara on Wednesday next, April 25.

Chairperson Sean Ardagh said today the objective of the inquiry is to piece together all the facts.

Once that is completed, the committee will make recommendations into what has been one of the most controversial gardai investigations in recent years.
