Garda injured in checkpoint assault
Another member of the gardai has been injured at a foot and mouth checkpoint on the border.
The Dublin-based garda was working on a checkpoint at Dromad, Co Louth.
He stopped a vehicle at 1.40am , and following a short conversation with the driver, advised the southern - bound vehicle to turn back up north.
The driver wound up his window, catching the garda's arm, before driving a short distance, dragging the garda along the road.
The driver then took a U-turn and drove back up north again. The garda suffered arm, collarbone and hip injuries, and was taken to hospital in an unconscious state.
The RUC subsequently stopped a vehicle believed to that involved in the incident.
